Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has defended the performance of President William Ruto’s administration, citing progress in healthcare, affordable housing and job creation as key achievements of the Kenya Kwanza government.

Speaking in Kamoi, Elgeyo Marakwet County, Murkomen said the administration had made significant strides in implementing development programmes aimed at improving the livelihoods of Kenyans.

The CS maintained that the government remained committed to ensuring citizens benefit directly from its development agenda, particularly through initiatives targeting essential services, economic empowerment and employment creation.

On healthcare, Murkomen highlighted the Social Health Authority (SHA), saying the government was focused on expanding access to medical services and ensuring Kenyans could access healthcare without unnecessary difficulties.

He also defended the Affordable Housing Programme, arguing that the initiative was playing an important role in addressing youth unemployment by creating job opportunities in the construction industry.

According to Murkomen, the programme goes beyond providing decent and affordable homes, as it also creates economic opportunities for young people and supports livelihoods across the construction value chain.

The Interior CS also criticised opposition leaders, accusing them of repeatedly attacking government programmes instead of supporting initiatives he said were intended to benefit ordinary Kenyans.

He challenged opposition politicians to allow the government to implement its development agenda, arguing that constructive engagement would be more beneficial to the country than persistent political criticism.

Murkomen’s remarks come amid continued political debate over the government's flagship programmes, particularly SHA and the Affordable Housing Programme, as the Kenya Kwanza administration seeks to defend its development record and reassure Kenyans about its policy priorities.
