Murkomen Celebrates Sheila Chepkirui, Hellen Obiri and Edna Kiplagat After Impressive New York Marathon Performances
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has congratulated Kenyan athletes for their outstanding performances at the New York City Marathon and Istanbul Marathon, praising them for continuing to fly Kenya's flag high on the international athletics stage.
In a congratulatory message, Murkomen singled out Sheila Chepkirui for winning the women's New York Marathon, describing her victory as a proud moment for the country.
He also applauded Hellen Obiri for securing an impressive second-place finish in the women's race, further underlining Kenya's dominance in international long-distance running.
The Interior CS reserved special recognition for veteran athlete Edna Kiplagat, who finished fourth at the age of 46, describing her achievement as remarkable and a demonstration of determination, experience and endurance.
Murkomen said Kiplagat's performance was particularly inspiring, considering her age and continued ability to compete against some of the world's best marathon runners.
Beyond the New York Marathon, the Cabinet Secretary also celebrated Kenyan athletes who delivered impressive results at the Istanbul Marathon.
He congratulated Philemon Kipchumba for securing a remarkable victory and setting a new course record at the Istanbul Marathon, describing the achievement as another testament to Kenya's exceptional talent in long-distance athletics.
Murkomen also recognised Vincent Ronoh for finishing third in the same competition, adding to Kenya's impressive showing on the international marathon circuit.
The CS said the athletes' performances were a source of immense national pride and encouraged them to maintain their winning momentum.
"We take immense pride in your performances. Keep going," Murkomen said.
The latest achievements once again highlight Kenya's strong reputation as a global powerhouse in long-distance running, with its athletes continuing to dominate major international competitions and inspire upcoming generations of runners.
