KEMSA CEO Commissions Culture Change Champions to Strengthen Accountability

Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) Chief Executive Officer Dr Waqo Dulacha Ejersa has commissioned Culture Change Champions to spearhead the implementation of recommendations from an in-depth organisational culture review aimed at strengthening accountability, leadership and operational efficiency.

The champions will play a critical role in addressing barriers to best practices, promoting employee ownership and embedding a performance-driven culture across the Authority.

The commissioning ceremony was held at the KEMSA National Supply Chain Centre in Embakasi, Nairobi, marking a significant milestone in the institution's efforts to strengthen its internal systems and improve service delivery.

The event was followed by the presentation of the Culture Champions Commitment Charter to Dr Waqo by Director of Corporate Services Ebla Mohamed and Blue Media Director Damaris Ndungwa.

Developed by KEMSA management in collaboration with its consulting firm, the charter provides a framework for translating the findings of the organisational culture review into practical leadership commitments and workplace behaviours.

It is anchored on the Authority's six core values: Integrity, Inclusivity, Customer Focus, Innovation, Trust and Operational Excellence.

The charter outlines six leadership commitments designed to guide management and staff in fostering a unified, accountable and results-oriented institution.

These include Walk the Talk, Be Visible, Share Accountability Fairly and Mutually, Lead as One KEMSA, Reinforce Where It Counts and Own the Culture.

Through these commitments, KEMSA seeks to promote consistency in leadership practices, strengthen mutual accountability and ensure that institutional values are reflected in everyday decision-making and service delivery.

The commitments will be cascaded across the Authority to encourage collective ownership of the culture change agenda and ensure that the desired values and behaviours are embraced at every level of the organisation.

The initiative also underscores the importance of visible leadership, collaboration and shared responsibility in building an institution capable of responding effectively to the demands of Kenya's healthcare sector.

For KEMSA, a performance-driven and values-based organisational culture is central to strengthening operational effectiveness and ensuring that internal processes support its mandate of supplying essential medical commodities to health facilities across the country.

Through the Culture Change Champions and implementation of the commitment charter, the Authority aims to build an organisation where leadership accountability, teamwork and a shared commitment to excellence translate into a more responsive and reliable health supply chain.

The initiative is expected to provide a structured approach to sustaining the culture change process, ensuring that the findings of the organisational review inform practical improvements in leadership conduct, employee engagement and institutional performance.
