Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been proposed as one of the four deputy party leaders of Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Party in a major political development that signals the movement’s growing national ambitions.
Mwangaza’s proposed appointment was announced on Friday, October 30, 2026, during the unveiling of the party’s proposed national leadership structure at its newly launched headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi.
The event attracted several prominent opposition figures, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa.
Speaking during the launch, Sifuna confirmed that Mwangaza had agreed to leave her current political party and join Linda Mwananchi, where she would assume a senior leadership position.
“Governor, whom I still call Governor of Meru, the Honourable Kawira Mwangaza, has agreed very graciously that she will be leaving her party to become one of the party leaders of the Linda Mwananchi Party,” Sifuna announced.
Mwangaza is among the proposed deputy party leaders alongside Mavoko MP Patrick Makau and former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo. The fourth position has been reserved for a representative from the Coast region.
Sifuna explained that the proposed arrangement would provide regional balance and strengthen the party's presence across the country as it seeks to expand its political support base.
“We will be proposing to the National Delegates Convention of the Linda Mwananchi Party that we restructure the party so that we have a party leader, and then we have four deputies to accommodate all the regions in which we have support and in which we are looking for support,” he said.
The proposed leadership structure also features Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi as party chairperson, deputised by former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo.
Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has been proposed as Secretary-General, with Pauline Njoroge named as his deputy.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has also been proposed to chair the party's Board of Trustees and lead its presidential campaign team, with Faith Odhiambo serving as his deputy.
However, Sifuna cautioned that the proposed leadership structure was not final, saying consultations were still ongoing to accommodate more leaders and fill the remaining positions.
“This team is not final. There are very, very many positions to be filled as we will be consulting to fill them,” he said.
The proposed appointments are expected to be presented to the Linda Mwananchi Party's National Delegates Convention scheduled for November 13, 2026, where delegates will consider and ratify the leadership lineup.
Mwangaza's proposed entry into the party is expected to add political weight to the movement, particularly in the Mt Kenya and Meru regions, as Linda Mwananchi positions itself for a broader national political role.
