BECKY KIMETTO LEADS ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN AS TURBO PEDALING EDITION 2 SET FOR NOVEMBER 21 IN ELDORET
Cycling enthusiasts, sports stakeholders and members of the public have been called upon to embrace responsible road use as preparations intensify for the second edition of Turbo Pedaling, an initiative seeking to promote road safety awareness, nurture cycling talent and encourage healthy lifestyles.
The initiative, organised by Ceder Sports Academy under the theme *“Creating Road Safety Awareness,”* was officially launched on Wednesday morning by its founder, Ms. Becky Kimetto, who brought together sports enthusiasts and other stakeholders to rally support for the upcoming cycling event.
The main event is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 2026, starting at Maili Tisa Interchange along the Eldoret Bypass, with participants expected to take part in activities aimed at promoting cycling while creating awareness about the importance of road safety.
Speaking during the official launch, Kimetto emphasised the need to create a stronger road safety culture by encouraging motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and other road users to respect one another and observe traffic regulations.
She noted that cycling is not only an important sporting activity but also an effective platform for educating communities about responsible road use, particularly at a time when road safety remains a major concern across the country.
Kimetto explained that Turbo Pedaling was established to create opportunities for cycling enthusiasts, promote participation in sports and use sporting activities to address important community issues.
She said the second edition would build on the objectives of the inaugural event by bringing together different groups of people with a shared commitment to promoting cycling, physical fitness and safer roads.
The founder further observed that sports initiatives play an important role in bringing communities together, identifying emerging talent and providing young people with positive opportunities to develop their abilities.
Through the initiative, Ceder Sports Academy seeks to encourage more people to embrace cycling as a competitive sporting discipline as well as a recreational activity that contributes to physical fitness and mental well-being.
Kimetto also recognised the contribution of the Jakim Foundation, represented by Jared Kimetto, for supporting the initiative and demonstrating commitment towards promoting cycling and road safety awareness.
She acknowledged that partnerships between sports organisations, foundations and other stakeholders are important in strengthening community-based sporting initiatives and ensuring that programmes aimed at developing talent and promoting public awareness reach more people.
The involvement of the Jakim Foundation is expected to strengthen the initiative's efforts to promote cycling and encourage greater community participation in activities that combine sports with social responsibility.
Turbo Pedaling Edition 2 is also expected to provide an opportunity for upcoming cyclists to showcase their abilities, interact with experienced participants and gain greater exposure in the growing sporting discipline.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the event seeks to use cycling as a tool for encouraging healthy lifestyles, promoting discipline and inspiring young people to explore sporting opportunities.
Road safety awareness will remain a central focus of the event, with the organisers seeking to encourage a culture in which all road users understand their responsibilities and take necessary precautions to prevent accidents.
Cyclists, in particular, require consideration and respect from other road users, while they are equally expected to observe traffic regulations, maintain road discipline and prioritise their safety.
The choice of Maili Tisa Interchange along the Eldoret Bypass as the starting point is expected to provide a central meeting point for participants and supporters attending the event.
Kimetto has expressed optimism that the second edition will attract increased participation and support from the sporting community, noting that collective efforts are necessary to grow cycling and make road safety awareness a shared responsibility.
She has consequently called on sports enthusiasts, cycling clubs, community organisations and members of the public to support the initiative and participate in the November 21 event.
With the second edition approaching, Turbo Pedaling is positioning itself as more than just a cycling competition, with its organisers seeking to establish a platform where sporting talent development, community engagement, physical wellness and road safety education work together.
The November 21 event is expected to reinforce the message that safer roads require collective responsibility and that sports can play a significant role in creating awareness, building healthier communities and nurturing the next generation of sporting talent.
