President William Ruto has announced that German football giants Bayern Munich will face Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam in a historic international friendly match scheduled for January 5, 2027, to officially inaugurate the newly constructed Raila Odinga International Stadium in Nairobi.

Speaking on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the President said the encounter would mark the official opening of the 60,000-seater facility, formerly known as Talanta Stadium, located at Jamhuri Grounds along Ngong Road.

Ruto described the development as a major milestone for Kenya's sporting infrastructure, noting that the country had long needed a modern facility capable of hosting major international sporting events.

"Two years ago, I promised the people of Kenya a world-class stadium where the greatest teams in the world would come and play. Today, we are keeping that promise," said Ruto.

The President further described the stadium as a symbol of national development, noting that a facility once considered impossible had now become a reality.

The planned international friendly is expected to attract football fans from across the country and beyond, placing Kenya in the international sporting spotlight as it continues to invest in modern sports infrastructure.
