Former Gatundu North MP Francis Kigo Njenga Builds Kahûngû Bridge to Improve Farmers’ Market Access and Children’s Safety

Former Gatundu North Member of Parliament Hon. Dr. CPA Francis Kigo Njenga has stepped up his community development efforts through the construction of Kahûngû Bridge, an intervention expected to improve farmers’ access to markets while enhancing the safety of children crossing the area.

The bridge project highlights Kigo Njenga’s emphasis on practical leadership, with the former legislator insisting that leaders should be judged by what they do for communities rather than the promises they make.

“Leaders should lead through action, not empty talk,” is the message he has consistently advanced as he seeks to reconnect with residents of Gatundu North.

The construction of Kahûngû Bridge addresses an important community need. For farmers, reliable crossing points are essential in transporting produce to markets, reducing delays and limiting the difficulties associated with accessing buyers.

The bridge is also expected to provide a safer crossing for children travelling to and from school, particularly during periods when difficult weather conditions can make movement across waterways dangerous.

For rural communities, infrastructure projects of this nature have a direct connection to everyday livelihoods. A functional bridge can ease movement, support local trade and improve access to essential services.

Kigo Njenga’s approach places emphasis on identifying challenges that affect residents and pursuing practical solutions. Rather than treating development as a political talking point, the former MP is using the Kahûngû Bridge project to reinforce his argument that leadership must translate into tangible benefits for the people.

His intervention comes as he prepares to contest the Gatundu North parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election on a Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ticket.

Kigo Njenga previously represented Gatundu North in the National Assembly from 2013 to 2017. His political experience also includes service in Kiambu County, where he served as a County Executive Committee Member.

As he seeks another opportunity to represent the constituency, his campaign is placing attention on development, accountability and community-focused leadership.

The Kahûngû Bridge project offers residents an opportunity to assess the practical issues being addressed, particularly the relationship between infrastructure, agricultural productivity and the safety of school-going children.

For farmers, improved access can mean easier transportation of produce and better connections to trading centres. For parents, safer routes for children remain a critical concern.

Kigo Njenga’s central argument is that leadership should be visible in the lives of ordinary people. His call for action over rhetoric is likely to remain a key part of his political message as the 2027 electoral contest approaches.

Ultimately, the value of the Kahûngû Bridge will be measured by its lasting contribution to the community—how effectively it supports farmers, improves mobility and protects children.
