Onyonka Declares Kisii Governor Bid, Promises to Restore County’s Lost Glory
Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has officially declared his intention to vie for the Kisii County gubernatorial seat, pledging to restore what he described as the county’s lost glory through accountable leadership, development-focused governance and unity among residents.
In a statement shared on Saturday, the senator said he had made a firm decision to seek the governor’s position, calling on the people of Kisii to place their trust in his leadership vision.
“I have made a resolute decision. I will be vying for the seat of Governor of Kisii County,” Onyonka said.
The senator expressed confidence that he has the capacity and commitment to lead the county into a new era of growth, improved service delivery and stronger public institutions.
“My people, trust me on this; I will redeem the lost glory of our county,” he added.
Onyonka’s declaration is expected to intensify political activity in Kisii County as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the next General Election. His entry into the gubernatorial race could reshape the county’s political landscape, given his long experience in national politics and his current role as Kisii Senator.
The senator did not provide further details on his campaign strategy, political allies or the specific development agenda he intends to pursue if elected governor. However, his message signals that he will likely focus on restoring public confidence in county leadership, strengthening development projects and addressing concerns affecting residents across the region.
Onyonka also used the occasion to send goodwill messages to residents and Kenyans at large, urging unity and faith.
“God bless Kisii, God bless Kenya and Happy Sabbath,” he said.
His announcement has already sparked discussion among political observers and residents, with many now waiting to see how other potential candidates will respond as the race for the Kisii governorship gathers momentum.
