GLOVES OFF: Kesses MP Julius Rutto Demands Murkomen Records Statement Over Remarks Targeting Mandago, Chris Kiptoo
Kesses Member of Parliament Hon. CPA Julius Rutto has launched a fierce response to Interior Cabinet Secretary Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen following remarks perceived to be directed at Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago and Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo.
Rutto accused the Interior CS of making troubling statements that could be interpreted as threats against the two leaders, demanding that Murkomen records a statement with relevant authorities to clarify the meaning and intent of his remarks.
The legislator took issue with Murkomen’s reported comments questioning whether Senator Mandago and Dr. Kiptoo were certain they would “be there in the near future,” saying the remarks had raised concern among residents and political leaders in the region.
“Such words are serious and cannot be treated casually, especially when they are directed at leaders serving the people,” Rutto said. “The Interior CS should record a statement and explain what he meant by questioning whether Senator Mandago and PS Chris Kiptoo will be there in the near future.”
The Kesses MP said leaders must exercise restraint and avoid statements that could heighten political tensions or create fear among the public.
He maintained that political competition should be guided by respect, dialogue and the rule of law, adding that no leader should use language that appears to intimidate, threaten or undermine fellow public servants.
Rutto further called on security agencies to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves, saying public officials have a responsibility to promote peace and cohesion, particularly at a time when political temperatures are rising.
The exchange signals an intensifying political showdown in the Rift Valley, where competing leaders have continued to trade barbs over influence, development and the region’s political direction ahead of the next General Election.
