South B MCA Waithera Chege Secures Affordable Housing Update for 233 Applicants, Promises Support Until Every Case Is Resolved

Nairobi South B Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Waithera Chege has stepped up efforts to ensure residents benefit from the Government's Affordable Housing Programme after obtaining an official status update for 233 applicants linked to the Mukuru Affordable Housing Project.

The update follows concerns raised by residents who sought clarity on the progress of their applications. In response, the MCA formally engaged the Affordable Housing Board, which has now released a detailed report outlining the status of each application.

According to the report signed by the Board's Chief Executive Officer, 147 applications are still pending verification, while 60 applicants have successfully received offer letters, marking a significant milestone in their journey toward home ownership.

The report further shows that 12 applications require corrections, five applicants could not be traced in the system, another five applications were declined, two are awaiting application form uploads, and two cases contain incomplete or blank information.

A closer review of the 147 applications awaiting verification indicates that 29 applicants have not yet met the required deposit threshold. Additionally, 13 applicants have only KSh 200 reflected as user savings, while 16 have deposited more than KSh 200 but are yet to attain the mandatory five percent deposit required for processing. The remaining applications are undergoing verification by the Board.

Hon. Waithera Chege has urged all affected applicants to visit her constituency office, where they will receive personalized guidance based on the official feedback from the Affordable Housing Board. She emphasized that no applicant should be left behind due to lack of information or misunderstanding of the application process.

To further support residents, the MCA announced plans to organize a comprehensive public sensitization forum that will educate applicants on the Affordable Housing Programme, explain the verification process, outline eligibility requirements, and provide guidance on how to successfully complete outstanding application requirements.

Waithera reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring every deserving resident has access to accurate information and support throughout the housing application process. She pledged that her office will continue working closely with the Affordable Housing Board until all pending issues are addressed and eligible residents are given a fair opportunity to own affordable homes under the Government's flagship housing programme.
