Interior Cabinet Secretary Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen has urged Kalenjin leaders to abandon succession politics and focus on supporting President William Samoei Ruto's administration, saying debates over a regional "kingpin" are unnecessary and divisive.

Speaking during a public engagement, Murkomen dismissed growing discussions about who should emerge as the Kalenjin community's political leader, insisting that the priority should be ensuring President Ruto delivers on his development agenda.

"Let us not fight over a non-existent Kingpin position," Murkomen said. "Our focus should be assisting President William Samoei Ruto to succeed in implementing his vision for the country rather than engaging in unnecessary political contests."

The Interior CS emphasized that the President's success would translate into tangible benefits for all Kenyans, urging leaders from the Rift Valley to unite behind the government's economic transformation agenda instead of engaging in premature succession debates.

Murkomen noted that political unity and collective leadership are essential in driving development and ensuring the government fulfills its promises to wananchi.

His remarks come amid increasing political conversations within the Rift Valley over the region's future leadership, even as President Ruto continues serving his first term in office.

The CS called on elected leaders to prioritize service delivery, economic empowerment and national cohesion, maintaining that the time for succession politics would come later.

"This is the time to work, not to divide ourselves over positions that do not exist. Let us stand together, support the President and ensure that the promises made to Kenyans are fulfilled," Murkomen added.

His comments are expected to fuel debate over the ongoing political realignments within the Kenya Kwanza coalition and the broader conversation about leadership in the Rift Valley.
