Kenyan Teacher’s One-Year Initiative Transforms Kamariny Primary: 90 Students Now Fully Supported
In a remarkable testament to dedication, faith, and community spirit, award-winning teacher Shokwei V. Barsulai has completed a life-changing initiative at Kamariny Primary and Junior School, providing full support to 90 students in Grades 5 and 6.
Yesterday, the final batch of 23 learners received school uniforms, learning materials, and a full lunch sponsorship for the year, marking the completion of a program that now reaches every child in the two grades.
Barsulai, who hails from the heart of Keiyo North, shared his joy with the community, saying, “What once seemed impossible is now a beautiful testimony. My heart is full, my eyes are teary, and my gratitude is beyond words.”
The initiative, launched just a year ago, began as a simple desire to help a handful of learners in need. But with steadfast commitment, tireless effort, and the support of international partners, the program has grown into a beacon of hope, dignity, and opportunity for an entire school.
“This program is not just about supporting individual learners. Today, we are transforming a school community, one child at a time,” Barsulai said.
The sponsorship provides students with uniforms, school supplies, and nutritious daily meals, ensuring that children can focus on learning without the burden of unmet basic needs. Teachers and parents have lauded the program, noting that it has improved school attendance, motivation, and overall performance.
Barsulai expressed heartfelt gratitude to the international supporters who made this achievement possible, including friends in Poland, Marzena Figiel-Strzała, Damian Strzała, and The Marpo Team. Their contributions, combined with local community support, have created a sustainable program that is already making a tangible difference.
Reflecting on the journey, Barsulai said, “At no point in my life did I ever imagine that one day we would be talking about reaching almost an entire school. As I reflect on this journey, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and awe at what God has done.”
The teacher emphasized that while the program has already impacted 90 students, the ultimate goal is to expand support to more learners in the school and the wider Keiyo North community, ensuring that no child is left behind.
Community members have praised Barsulai for his visionary leadership, noting that the initiative has strengthened the school’s spirit, improved learning conditions, and instilled hope in both students and their families.
“The change is visible in every corner of the school—from the classrooms to the dining area. Children are more confident, more engaged, and more excited about their future,” said one parent whose child has benefited from the program.
Barsulai’s efforts highlight the transformative power of education, compassion, and collaboration. By combining local dedication with international support, he has shown that even small initiatives, when nurtured with care and faith, can grow into life-changing programs.
“To God be all the glory,” Barsulai concluded, his voice filled with emotion, “Today, we celebrate not just individual achievements but the transformation of an entire school community in a beautiful village.”
The Kamariny Primary initiative is now being looked at as a model for other schools across Kenya, demonstrating that with vision, faith, and community partnerships, the impossible can indeed become possible.
