Murkomen Urges Leaders to Set Positive Examples for Children

 Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called on parents, teachers, and leaders to lead by example, emphasizing that many of the challenges facing schools today stem from behaviors that young people observe and imitate from adults.

Speaking during a thanksgiving service and the Annual General Meeting of Kipsaos Boys High School in Keiyo South Constituency, Murkomen said children often mirror the conduct of those in positions of authority, making it imperative for leaders to demonstrate responsibility, discipline, and integrity.

The Cabinet Secretary noted that the country's political culture and the actions of leaders significantly influence the attitudes and behavior of the younger generation. He urged leaders at all levels to uphold high moral standards and foster values that inspire positive character among young people.

“Children learn from what they see around them. As leaders and parents, we must be conscious of the examples we set because the next generation is watching and learning from us,” Murkomen said.

He stressed that addressing indiscipline and other social challenges in schools requires collective responsibility from families, communities, and leaders who serve as role models.

Murkomen also underscored the importance of nurturing values-based leadership and strengthening mentorship programs to guide learners toward becoming responsible citizens.

The event brought together education stakeholders, local leaders, parents, and members of the community. Among those present were ICT and Digital Economy Principal Secretary Eng. John Tanui, Keiyo South MP Gideon Kimaiyo, Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai, Elgeyo-Marakwet Deputy Governor Prof. Grace Cheserek, County Assembly Speaker Lawi Kibire, and several Members of County Assembly.

The leaders commended Kipsaos Boys High School for its commitment to academic excellence and character development, urging students to remain focused on their studies and future aspirations.
