“Kenya Belongs to All”: Harun Mwega Maina Slams UDA SG Omar Hassan Over ‘Divisive’ Remarks

Political temperatures continue to rise ahead of the 2027 General Election after DCP Party candidate for Huruma Ward, Harun Mwega Maina, strongly condemned remarks made by Hassan Omar Hassan, accusing the UDA Secretary General of profiling the Kikuyu community.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday, Maina described Omar’s remarks as “reckless” and warned leaders against fueling ethnic divisions at a time when the country is already experiencing heightened political tension.

“I condemn in the strongest terms possible the reckless statement by UDA Secretary General Omar Hassan profiling the Kikuyu community,” Maina said.

He added that such remarks are dangerous and unacceptable in a country that has repeatedly suffered from politically instigated ethnic divisions.

“Such remarks are unacceptable, especially at a time when the country’s political temperature is already high. Leaders must exercise restraint and unity, not stoke division and ethnic profiling,” he stated.

Maina further urged Kenyans to reject tribal politics and embrace national unity, emphasizing that Kenya belongs to all communities equally.

“Kenya belongs to all of us. We must reject any attempt to divide Kenyans along tribal lines,” he added.

The remarks come amid a growing national backlash against Hassan Omar following comments widely interpreted as targeting the Mt Kenya region and the Kikuyu community. Several political leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka and Anne Waiguru, have also condemned the statements, describing them as ethnic baiting and divisive politics.

Following the uproar, Hassan Omar later issued a clarification and apology, saying his comments had been taken out of context and were never intended to offend or target any community.

The controversy has now reignited debate over ethnic politics in Kenya as political alignments begin taking shape ahead of the 2027 elections.
