Hamisi Hospital Gets Boost as Ultra-Portable Digital X-Ray Machine Promises Faster Diagnosis for Patients

Patients seeking X-ray services at Hamisi Sub-County Hospital in Vihiga County have received a major boost after the facility acquired an ultra-portable battery-powered digital X-ray system aimed at improving speed and accuracy in diagnosis.

The modern equipment, designed to enhance healthcare delivery, can provide instant diagnostic imaging for all body parts and is capable of serving more than 200 patients within eight hours, significantly reducing waiting time for patients.

The handing-over ceremony was presided over by Vihiga County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Services Dr Nicholas Kitungulu, alongside Chief Officer Dr Mary Anyiendah, in collaboration with USAID-PATH Nuru Ya Mtoto programme officials.

The upgrade is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen diagnostic services at the facility and improve access to quality healthcare for residents of Hamisi and surrounding areas.

According to Dr Habel Alwanga, Deputy Chief of Party at PATH Kenya under the Nuru Ya Mtoto project, the system is equipped with a high-frequency generator, a wireless panel detector, radiation protection gear, and a laptop fitted with artificial intelligence-powered acquisition software.

He noted that the technology will not only speed up service delivery but also improve accuracy in medical imaging, allowing clinicians to make faster and more informed decisions.

Dr Kitungulu welcomed the development, saying the equipment would ease pressure on patients who previously had to wait long hours or travel long distances to access similar diagnostic services.

Health officials said the installation marks a significant step in strengthening primary healthcare services in the region, particularly in improving early diagnosis and treatment outcomes.

Residents are expected to benefit from faster, safer, and more efficient X-ray services as the county continues to invest in modern medical technology.
