Osotsi Speaks After Hospital Discharge, Terms Kisumu Attack ‘Hooliganism’
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has broken his silence following his discharge from Karen Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment after a violent attack in Kisumu earlier this week.
In a statement issued after leaving the hospital, Osotsi said he was in “high spirits” and expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life after the Wednesday incident, which left him injured.
“Let the attack on me not be turned into a tribal matter. This was purely hooliganism staged and sponsored by people who are well known,” the senator said, dismissing attempts to politicize or ethnicize the incident.
Osotsi was attacked by a group of individuals in Kisumu, in what has since drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders across the divide. According to reports, the assailants confronted him at a business complex before turning violent, with the situation escalating rapidly.
The senator recounted that the attackers, estimated to be between 15 and 20, descended on him and assaulted him while questioning his political stance, leaving him unconscious before he was rescued by his security team.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with several suspects already arrested and expected to face charges in court.
In his statement, Osotsi thanked his family, particularly his wife Jamila and their children, for standing by him during his hospitalization. He also expressed appreciation to supporters and political allies who visited him and offered prayers for his recovery.
“I thank my dear wife, Jamila, and my children for standing by me while in the hospital,” he said.
The senator also acknowledged the support of the Linda Mwananchi movement, a political outfit he is associated with, as well as leaders from across the political spectrum who visited him during his recovery.
“I also thank the Linda Mwananchi team, leaders from across the political divide, and our supporters for visiting me in hospital and praying for my quick recovery,” he added.
Osotsi further extended gratitude to the Parliament of Kenya and the Senate of Kenya for their support during the difficult period.
The attack has sparked national concern, with opposition leaders condemning the incident and calling for swift action against those responsible. Some leaders have described the assault as politically motivated and warned of rising intolerance in the country.
Authorities, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), have launched investigations and are reviewing evidence, including CCTV footage, as part of efforts to identify and prosecute all those involved.
Despite the ordeal, Osotsi maintained a defiant tone, signaling his intention to continue with his political activities and advocacy.
The incident adds to growing concerns over political violence in Kenya as the country edges closer to the 2027 general elections, with calls mounting for restraint, accountability, and protection of democratic space.
