Mrembo na Kazi: MP Irene Njoki’s Firm Stand Against Femicide

The Hon. Member of Parliament for Bahati, Irene Njoki—fondly known as *Mrembo na Kazi*—has once again raised a powerful and unwavering voice against the growing crisis of femicide, calling for a return to values that uphold life, dignity, and mutual respect within families and communities.

In a deeply reflective and resolute statement, the legislator reaffirmed her consistent condemnation of gender-based violence, describing femicide as a grave moral and social failure that continues to wound the fabric of society. She emphasized that relationships, no matter how strained, should never descend into violence.

“God’s design entrusted man to protect and woman to nurture and build, so that together, families flourish in love, never in harm,” she stated. “When relationships falter, walking away is always an option—taking a life must never be.”

Drawing from Scripture, she underscored the importance of emotional restraint and personal responsibility, quoting Psalm 37:8 (NLT): *“Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper—it only leads to harm.”* Her message blended faith, leadership, and a call for societal introspection.

The MP also paid tribute to victims of femicide, including Anita Mugweru, Mary Njoki, and Jackline Awuor, among many others whose lives were tragically cut short. She reminded the nation that behind every statistic is a human life—valuable, irreplaceable, and deserving of protection.

“Every life is sacred. Every woman deserves safety, dignity, and peace,” she affirmed. “Families flourish where love, respect, and responsibility are upheld—lives must be protected, not destroyed.”

Her statement reinforces a growing national call to action, urging communities, leaders, and institutions to confront the root causes of domestic violence and to foster a culture where conflicts are resolved without harm.

With clarity, conviction, and compassion, Hon. Irene Njoki continues to stand at the forefront of the fight to end femicide—championing a future where every woman can live free from fear.
