KNH Specialist Selected for Global Cancer Control Mission in Ghana

Kenyatta National Hospital has announced a major milestone in its contribution to global healthcare, as its Director of Medical Services, Dr. Catherine Naliaka Nyongesa, earns international recognition for her expertise in cancer care.

Dr. Nyongesa has been appointed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as an Expert on Mission to support an upcoming imPACT review in Ghana. The imPACT (Integrated Mission of PACT) initiative is a flagship IAEA program that assists countries in evaluating and strengthening their national cancer control strategies.

In her role, Dr. Nyongesa will serve as a radiation oncology expert, contributing to a comprehensive assessment of Ghana’s cancer care landscape. The mission will focus on evaluating radiotherapy infrastructure, identifying gaps in service delivery, and recommending strategic interventions to improve access to life-saving cancer treatment.

The appointment highlights Dr. Nyongesa’s distinguished career in oncology and underscores Kenyatta National Hospital’s growing influence in advancing specialized healthcare not only in Kenya but across the African continent.

Speaking on the recognition, KNH leadership expressed pride in her achievement, noting that her participation in the mission reflects the hospital’s commitment to excellence, research, and regional collaboration in tackling non-communicable diseases such as cancer.

The IAEA imPACT mission is expected to play a critical role in supporting Ghana’s national cancer control priorities, ultimately improving patient outcomes and strengthening health systems in the region.

This recognition marks yet another step forward for African expertise on the global stage, reinforcing the continent’s capacity to lead in addressing pressing health challenges.
