Two Arrested, 213 Suspected Stolen Phones Recovered in Trans Nzoia Crackdown

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested two suspects and recovered 213 mobile phones in an intelligence-led operation targeting the illegal trade in electronic devices in Trans Nzoia County.

The operation, conducted in Lessos, was carried out by officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) with support from Matisi Police Station. Acting on credible information, the detectives raided a residence near Airport Church, leading to the arrest of two suspects identified as Silas Wanjala, 24, and Job Kiberenge Sikuku, 28.

According to investigators, a total of 213 mobile phones of assorted makes and models were recovered during the raid. Authorities also seized a Pandora machine believed to have been used in mobile phone reprogramming, as well as three HP laptops. All recovered items have been secured as exhibits and are set to undergo forensic analysis.

Police say the operation is part of a broader effort to dismantle organized criminal networks involved in the theft and resale of electronic devices. Investigators are now working to establish the origin of the recovered phones and identify other individuals linked to the suspected syndicate.

The two suspects remain in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations.

The DCI has reiterated its commitment to curbing the illegal electronics trade and safeguarding consumers from purchasing stolen devices. Members of the public have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies through established reporting channels.

Authorities believe the recovery marks a significant step in addressing the growing concern over mobile phone theft and trafficking in the region.
