Trojans Storm Back to Stun Wasps 27–18 in Thrilling Rift Valley Showdown

The University of Eldoret Trojans mounted a commanding second-half comeback to defeat the Egerton University Wasps 27–18 in a pulsating Nationwide League Match Day 9 clash at the UoE Pavilion grounds.

Backed by a lively home crowd, the Trojans showed resilience and tactical maturity to overturn a five-point halftime deficit and seal a crucial victory in the Rift Valley conference.

Egerton dominated much of the opening half, dictating tempo with swift ball movement and stretching the hosts’ defence with their pace out wide. Their efforts paid off late in the half when they crossed the whitewash and added a successful conversion to head into the break with an 18–13 lead.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically after the interval.

With the rains easing and the pitch remaining heavy underfoot, the Trojans adjusted their approach. Opting for a tighter, forward-driven game, UoE focused on territory and possession, gradually pinning the Wasps deep in their own half. The hosts’ pack rose to the occasion, winning key battles at the breakdown and setting up scoring opportunities.

Egerton, whose expansive style had flourished in the first half, struggled to adapt to the slowing conditions. The Trojans capitalised, running in unanswered points in the second stanza while keeping the visitors scoreless to complete a spirited 27–18 turnaround.

The result boosts UoE’s campaign momentum as the Nationwide League season heads into its decisive stretch, while Egerton will rue missed opportunities after a promising start.

Elsewhere across the regions, several teams recorded emphatic wins, underlining the growing competitiveness of the Nationwide League as Match Day 9 delivered high-scoring encounters and dominant performances.
