TENP Joins Uasin Gishu in Marking World Water Day at Sambut Dam
The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) today joined stakeholders, government officials, and community partners in commemorating World Water Day at Sambut Dam in Turbo Subcounty, Uasin Gishu County.
The event, officiated by Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor H.E. Evans Kapkea, brought together various institutions and organizations to reflect on the critical role water plays in sustainable development and social equity.
This year’s celebration was held under the theme “Water and Gender: Where Water Flows, Equality Thrives,” emphasizing the connection between access to clean water and the empowerment of marginalized groups, particularly women and girls. Speakers at the event highlighted how improved water access reduces the burden of water collection, enhances health outcomes, and creates opportunities for education and economic participation.
TENP was represented by a delegation of students and staff led by Madam Jane Marindich, Deputy Dean and Gender Mainstreaming Champion, alongside Mr. Jonathan Ngenoh, the institution’s Environment Officer. The team actively participated in the day’s activities, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to environmental conservation and gender inclusivity.
In her remarks, Madam Marindich underscored the importance of integrating gender perspectives in water management policies and practices, noting that equitable access to water resources is key to achieving sustainable development goals.
The event also saw participation from several key partners, including the Water Resources Management Authority (WRMA), National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Uasin Gishu Water and Sewerage Company (URWASCO), Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELSOWAS), Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA), and the Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI), among others.
Activities during the celebration included tree planting, awareness campaigns, and community engagement sessions aimed at promoting water conservation and environmental stewardship.
The World Water Day commemoration at Sambut Dam served as a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect water resources while fostering inclusivity and equality in access and management.
As the world continues to grapple with water scarcity and climate change, stakeholders called for strengthened partnerships and sustained efforts to ensure that no one is left behind in accessing this vital resource.
