Ruto Launches KSh990 Million Road and Market Projects in Busia

William Ruto on Monday launched two key development projects in Busia County worth nearly KSh990 million, aimed at improving infrastructure and boosting trade in the region.

The projects include the construction of the 13-kilometre Nangina–Sio Port–Okados–Mundere Road and the Budalang’i Modern Market, both expected to enhance economic activity in the western part of Kenya.

Speaking during the launch, President Ruto said the government is focused on accelerating development through strategic investments that benefit communities across the country.

“For many years, Kenya’s development was slowed by leadership that lacked vision. That era is behind us. Today, we are moving the country forward with deliberate investments in critical sectors, ensuring that no part of our nation is left behind,” he said.

The KSh860 million road project will connect communities in Funyula Constituency and Budalang’i Constituency, improving transportation and facilitating the movement of goods and people.

Government officials said the road will help farmers and traders access markets more easily while strengthening trade links within the region.

During the same visit, the President also laid the foundation stone for the Budalang’i Modern Market, a KSh130 million project designed to provide traders with improved facilities.

The market will offer modern stalls, better sanitation, and safer working conditions for hundreds of small-scale traders, particularly women and young entrepreneurs.

President Ruto said the project fulfills the government’s commitment to empower traders by creating dignified and well-equipped business environments.

Local leaders welcomed the projects, saying they will significantly improve livelihoods and stimulate economic growth in Busia and neighboring areas.

The initiatives are part of the government’s broader plan to expand infrastructure and support small businesses as a driver of economic development across the country.
