Police Recover Modified G3 Rifle in Kisumu Intelligence-Led Operation

A decisive intelligence-driven operation by police in Kisumu County has led to the recovery of a modified G3 rifle suspected to have been used in a series of violent robberies within and beyond the county.

The breakthrough came after a tip-off from a vigilant citizen in Kisumu City prompted the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Kondele Police Station to deploy undercover officers to follow up on leads regarding a missing G3 FMP rifle linked to criminal activities.

The search culminated at the residence of Wilson Ojowi in Kawese Village, Mahenya Sub-location, Kolwa East Location, where a close family member of the prime suspect cooperated with police to reveal a concealed site within the compound.

Officers discovered the weapon buried inside an unfinished latrine, hidden in a sack beneath freshly dug soil. The G3 rifle had been crudely modified, with its butt stock and muzzle removed—modifications believed to facilitate its use in close-range, high-risk criminal operations. An empty magazine was also recovered alongside the firearm.

The scene was professionally processed and documented, and the rifle and magazine were secured as exhibits at Kondele Police Station.

Preliminary investigations link the weapon to a recent robbery with violence incident in which a suspect was seen wielding a G3 rifle missing a butt stock, matching the recovered firearm’s description.

The prime suspect, 20-year-old Fortune Benedict Migot, remains at large along with three accomplices. Authorities believe Migot is responsible for a string of violent robberies in the region. Forensic analysis of the recovered rifle is expected to strengthen the case against him and connect him to multiple crime scenes.

Migot is reportedly facing an active case at Winam Law Courts and is currently under investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisumu East. He had previously sustained gunshot wounds during a robbery, indicating his continued involvement in dangerous criminal activities.

Police have intensified efforts to apprehend Migot and his accomplices and have urged the public to provide any information that could assist in their capture.

This successful operation highlights the importance of cooperation between the community and law enforcement agencies in tackling crime and enhancing public safety in Kisumu and its environs.
