Murkomen Alleges Raphael Tuju Staged His Own Abduction

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has publicly accused former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju of faking his own abduction, warning that what he termed as “repetitive theatrics” threaten national security and public trust.

Speaking during a burial ceremony in Kositei, Tiaty, Murkomen alleged that Tuju orchestrated a self-abduction incident designed to incite public unrest and mislead authorities. The event was held in honor of Bill Lorupe Ballot Kassait, son of politician William Kamket and Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait.

“Someone cannot incite the public and cause unrest after abducting themselves,” Murkomen said, emphasizing that such actions must be addressed decisively under the law.

The CS further called on the Judiciary to exercise vigilance in handling cases involving alleged staged abductions. He urged courts to impose firm penalties on individuals found guilty of fabricating such incidents, noting that false claims strain security resources and create unnecessary public panic.

Murkomen also reassured Kenyans of the government’s commitment to restoring peace in regions affected by insecurity, including Meru County, Samburu County, and Isiolo County. He cited ongoing disarmament efforts in Kerio Valley as a model for addressing banditry and cattle rustling in other parts of the country.

“The same way we have carried out disarmament in Kerio Valley, give us a little more time and we will disarm the remaining criminals and restore lasting peace,” he said.

The remarks come amid rising concerns over alleged abductions and security challenges in parts of the country, with the government warning against political interference in ongoing security operations.

Murkomen concluded by reiterating that anyone found culpable of staging abductions would face the full force of the law.
