Kisiwa National Polytechnic Principal Calls for National Volleyball Tournament for Colleges

Kisiwa National Polytechnic Principal Emmanuel Wamalwa , has called on the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) to introduce a national volleyball tournament targeting colleges, Technical Training Institutes (TTIs), and vocational training centres to help identify and nurture grassroots talent.

Speaking during the 4th edition of the Amboseli Volleyball Tournament held in Webuye, Wamalwa said many gifted young players lack adequate platforms to showcase their abilities. As a result, many fail to progress to the national stage despite having the potential to represent the country.

Wamalwa, a former volleyball player and now a seasoned tactician, noted that structured competitions at institutional level would help bridge the gap between grassroots development and the national teams.

He highlighted the recent success of the Kisiwa National Polytechnic Volleyball Team, which he led to an impressive performance at the Kenya Association of Technical Institutions Games (KATTI) held in Mombasa last year, where the team scooped six trophies and awards.

According to Wamalwa, the Western Region is rich in raw volleyball talent, but young players need more exposure and regular competitive opportunities to develop their skills.

He emphasized that creating more tournaments for technical institutions and colleges would give players valuable playing time and help build a stronger pipeline for Kenya’s national volleyball teams.
