Kenya, Uganda in Joint Push for 2026 Busia Cross Border Run

A high-level, multi-agency coordination meeting held at Chango Macho Hall in Busia District, Uganda, has set the stage for the 2026 Busia Cross Border Run, marking a significant milestone in preparations for the highly anticipated event.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders from security, health, sports, and environmental sectors from both Kenya and Uganda, highlighting the growing importance of cross-border collaboration in delivering a successful regional event.

The Kenyan delegation was led by Deputy County Commissioner Leo Stanley Amimo, who emphasized the need for seamless coordination among agencies to ensure the run is conducted safely and efficiently. 

He was supported by Border Race Coordinator Collins Adera, whose role in logistics remains central to the event’s organization.

Ugandan officials present included Busia District Deputy District Commissioner Leo Simiyu, Deputy Resident District Commissioner Kisuyi Abdulnassir, and Forestry Director Mr. Bitange, among others.

Deliberations focused on harmonizing operational plans across sectors. Security teams outlined strategies for joint patrols, traffic control, and crowd management along the race route, while health officials confirmed readiness to deploy medical personnel, ambulances, and emergency response teams.

Organizers also underscored the importance of environmental conservation, announcing a tree-planting initiative scheduled for April 2, 2026, ahead of the main event.

In addition, a free medical camp will be conducted to benefit communities on both sides of the border, reinforcing the run’s broader social impact.

Set for Easter Sunday, April 4, 2026, at Busia Polytechnic in Kenya, the Busia Cross Border Run is expected to draw participants from across the region. The route, which stretches into Uganda, symbolizes unity and shared purpose between the two neighbouring countries.

Stakeholders noted that beyond athletics, the event plays a vital role in promoting regional integration, healthy living, and stronger community ties. With preparations now in full swing, organizers are confident that the sixth edition of the run will surpass previous editions and further cement its place as a flagship cross-border event.
