Homa Bay Governor Nominates New Deputy Governor and Reshuffles Cabinet

The Governor of Homa Bay County, Gladys Wanga, has issued an executive order nominating a new Deputy Governor and announcing changes within the County Executive Committee.

In the order dated March 16, 2026, Governor Wanga nominated Danish Otieno Onyango to serve as Deputy Governor, pending approval by the County Assembly. The position became vacant following the resignation of the previous office holder.

Onyango, a seasoned public servant, currently serves as the County Executive Committee Member for Roads and Public Works. He has previously held senior roles in the national government, including serving as an undersecretary in the State Department of Infrastructure. The governor cited his extensive experience and performance record in infrastructure development as key reasons for the nomination.

During his tenure, the county reports significant progress in road development, including the construction of hundreds of kilometers of new roads and rehabilitation of existing ones to improve connectivity across all wards.

In addition to the deputy governor nomination, Governor Wanga announced further cabinet changes:

  • Elijah Obiny Dede has been nominated as County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Industry, Tourism, Marketing, and Co-operative Development. He previously served in leadership roles within the same department and is credited with expanding cooperative societies in the county.

  • Isaac Victor Ongiri has been nominated to head the Governance, Administration, Communication, and Devolution docket. He has experience in county administration and public communications.

  • Dr. Joash Aloo has been reassigned to the Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Development portfolio, where he is expected to strengthen value chains in key agricultural sectors.

Governor Wanga stated that the changes are aimed at enhancing service delivery and strengthening governance structures within the county.

All nominees will be subject to vetting and approval by the Homa Bay County Assembly in line with legal requirements.
