Governor Bii Boosts Road Works Program by Engaging Local Contractors

Residents of Uasin Gishu County are set to benefit from improved road infrastructure following a renewed push by the county government to accelerate road maintenance across all wards.

The initiative, spearheaded by Jonathan Bii, has gained momentum after the county engaged local private contractors who successfully applied to be part of the program. The move is expected not only to speed up ongoing works but also to create employment opportunities, particularly for young people.

Speaking during a meeting with the contractors, County Executive Committee Member for Roads, Transport and Public Works, Abraham Serem, said the inclusion of local contractors would significantly strengthen implementation of the project. He praised the high number of youth-led firms that qualified, noting it reflects growing local capacity in the construction sector.

Serem reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to delivering quality services through better road networks. He assured contractors that payments would be processed promptly upon successful completion of their assignments.

Also addressing the contractors, Chief Officer for Roads Geoffrey Tanui emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards. He called for close collaboration between contractors, engineers, and county officials to ensure the projects meet required specifications.

The contractors are expected to mobilize and begin work early next week, marking a significant step forward in the county’s infrastructure development agenda.

Among those present at the meeting were Director of Roads Engineer Julius Ronoh and Director of Administration and Planning Mark Tarus.
