From Doubt to Reality: New Homeowners Celebrate as Vihiga Affordable Housing Project Is Commissioned

Residents of Vihiga County are celebrating a major milestone after President William Samoei Ruto officially commissioned the Vihiga Estate Affordable Housing Project, marking a significant step in the government’s push to expand access to decent and affordable housing.

The newly unveiled development comprises 220 housing units spread across nine blocks. The units cater to a range of household needs, including 20 studio apartments, 20 one-bedroom units, 120 two-bedroom units, and 20 three-bedroom homes. The mix is designed to accommodate individuals, young families, and larger households seeking quality yet affordable living spaces.

Speaking during the commissioning, President Ruto highlighted the project as part of the broader national housing agenda aimed at transforming lives and bridging the housing deficit. He noted that the initiative not only provides homes but also creates employment opportunities and stimulates local economies.

These include a perimeter boundary wall, a gatehouse for security, a waste management cubicle, a powerhouse, and an underground water tank. The project also features comprehensive civil works such as access roads, drainage systems, and a sewer network, enhancing both accessibility and sanitation.
