Fintech, SACCO Leaders Meet in Nyeri to Discuss Cross-Border Digital Finance

Leaders from Kenya’s cooperative and financial technology sectors gathered in Nyeri for the 3rd Mt Kenya SACCO Fintech Forum, where discussions centered on how digital innovation can transform remittances, diaspora payments, and financial inclusion.

The forum brought together SACCO executives, fintech innovators, and digital finance specialists to explore partnerships that could make financial services faster, more secure, and accessible to millions of Kenyans, including those living abroad.

Participants noted that Kenya’s cooperative financial sector is increasingly embracing digital transformation as SACCOs seek to meet changing customer expectations and expand access to financial services. Industry stakeholders highlighted that technology partnerships with fintech firms are becoming key to modernising the SACCO ecosystem and improving service delivery.

A major focus of the discussions was the growing role of remittance platforms in supporting diaspora investments and enabling smoother cross-border transactions. Speakers also examined the potential of Wallet-as-a-Service (WaaS) infrastructure to help SACCOs integrate with global payment systems and provide seamless digital transaction capabilities to their members.

Among the companies contributing to these innovations is SasaPay, a fintech platform expanding its digital payments ecosystem to support businesses, financial institutions, and diaspora transactions through secure payment technologies.

Speaking during the forum, SasaPay Managing Director Stephen Kaguchia emphasised the importance of collaboration between fintech companies and SACCOs in unlocking new opportunities within Kenya’s digital finance landscape.

He said partnerships between technology providers and financial institutions can help improve efficiency, enhance customer experiences, and extend affordable financial services to Kenyans both locally and abroad.

The Mt Kenya SACCO Fintech Forum has emerged as a key platform for dialogue between cooperatives and fintech innovators. Organisers say the event aims to strengthen the cooperative movement while positioning Kenya as a regional leader in digital financial services.
