Daring Daylight Robbery Attempt Foiled in Machakos as Two Suspects Arrested

A bold daylight robbery attempt was thwarted in Machakos County after a victim’s quick thinking and a swift police response led to the arrest of two suspects linked to the incident.

The dramatic events unfolded at around 3:00 p.m. in Kimutwa village, when a resident was approached by two men in a Toyota Fielder, registration number KDS 457A, who posed as traders selling various items.

According to police reports, the suspects lured the victim to their vehicle under the pretense of showing him goods on a mobile phone. However, the situation quickly escalated when the driver asked to use the victim’s phone to save a contact, only to forcibly snatch it moments later.

Sensing danger, the victim resisted and, in a courageous move, lunged into the vehicle in an attempt to recover his phone. The suspects responded by speeding off, dragging him along in a dangerous bid to escape.

In a dramatic turn, the victim managed to grab the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to lose control and veer off the road before coming to a stop. The suspects then abandoned the car and fled on foot.

The victim raised alarm, attracting members of the public whose quick action helped alert officers from Konza Police Station. The officers, who were on patrol at Kwa-Mwau Trading Centre, responded promptly and launched a pursuit that led to the arrest of the two suspects.

The suspects are currently in custody at Konza Police Station and are expected to be arraigned in court following the completion of investigations.

Police who revisited the scene recovered the getaway vehicle and made a significant discovery—an additional registration plate, KDV 495X, concealed under the bonnet. Authorities believe this could point to the suspects’ involvement in other criminal activities.

The incident highlights both the risks posed by opportunistic criminals and the critical role of public vigilance and rapid police response in preventing crime.

Authorities have urged members of the public to exercise caution when dealing with strangers and to report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
