Capital A Investment Bank Combines Environmental Conservation and Financial Literacy in Schools

Capital A Investment Bank (CAIB) has launched an innovative initiative to teach financial literacy alongside environmental conservation, starting with State House Primary School. In partnership with Leafscape Limited, the bank inaugurated the Green Club Studio, a dedicated space for environmental learning and practical financial lessons.

The initiative marks the latest in a series of engagements across Kenya, with CAIB previously reaching students at Njabini Boys High School and Kenyatta University. The programs aim to equip young Kenyans with foundational knowledge of money management and investing, while fostering environmental stewardship.

At the launch, CAIB Chief Executive Officer Linus Kang’ara drew a parallel between planting a seed and investing money. He told students the story of two boys, Pesa and Alois, who were given seeds: Pesa planted and nurtured his, eventually growing a tree, while Alois kept his unplanted. “A seed only becomes a tree because someone planted it and watered it every day. Money works exactly the same way. Invest it somewhere. Keep adding to it. Watch it grow,” he explained.

The Green Club Studio allows students to actively engage with both lessons. During the launch, pupils participated in tree planting, painted pots, and sold seedlings at a student-run plant market, applying financial principles in a hands-on setting.

CAIB emphasized that the initiative is more than a campaign; it is a conviction that financial literacy and environmental awareness go hand in hand. Mr. Kang’ara highlighted the bank’s success as Kenya’s top bond trader in 2025, commanding a 19.68% market share with a bond turnover of KES 1.07 trillion, as evidence that understanding financial systems can translate into tangible outcomes.

“We want to go to many more schools, have many more of these studios, and build in our children a culture of taking care of the environment—and at the same time, teaching them the basics of money and investing,” Mr. Kang’ara said.

The Green Club Studio represents a pioneering approach to education in Kenya, blending practical environmental action with foundational financial skills, aiming to nurture a generation that is both financially savvy and environmentally conscious.
