“Rigathi Gachagua Welcomes Home Hon. Kanini Kega — DCP Party Emerges as a Hub for Progressive Leaders”

In a show of expanding unity and political repositioning ahead of the 2027 General Election, former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has publicly welcomed Hon. James Mathenge Kanini Kega into the party fold, underlining DCP’s appeal as “a home for progressive leaders who desire leadership in the future.”

Although mainstream Kenyan media has not yet published independent reports confirming Kega’s formal defection to the DCP, social and political channels have circulated a “Welcome Home Hon. Kanini Kega” narrative reflecting growing public interest and political speculation about the veteran politician’s alignment with Gachagua’s party efforts. 

Kanini Kega — a experienced legislator and former Member of Parliament for Kieni Constituency, currently representing Kenya at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) — has been a notable figure in Central Kenya politics for over a decade. He once led a faction attempting to take over leadership of the Jubilee Party, positioning himself as a key player in regional political strategy. 

In welcoming Kega, Gachagua reportedly stressed that the DCP Party is dedicated to inclusive leadership, fresh ideas, and giving space to leaders who share a vision for democratic governance and future leadership roles — principles that have defined the party since its official launch in May 2025. Gachagua’s framing of the DCP as a home for forward‑looking leaders aligns with his broader message of citizen‑centered politics and grassroots engagement. 

Since its inception, Gachagua’s DCP has been expanding its influence both in by‑elections and through strategic collaborations with other opposition figures. For example, in late 2025 Gachagua welcomed prominent legislators and extended invitations to other high‑profile political actors to join his ranks as the party prepares for the next national polls.
