Dedan Kimathi Foundation CEO Evelyn Kimathi Mourns Passing of Mau Mau Legend General Kiambati wa Njora
Evelyn Kimathi, CEO of the Dedan Kimathi Foundation, has joined Kenyans in mourning the passing of General Kiambati wa Njora, one of the last surviving Mau Mau legends, who passed away at the age of 106.
General Kiambati, a key commander in the Nyandarua forests and one of the elite “Twelve Generals,” played a pivotal role in Kenya’s fight for independence. His bravery and leadership accelerated the nation’s march to freedom, leaving a legacy etched in both history and the very soil he fought to liberate.
Reflecting on initiatives to honor freedom fighters, Evelyn Kimathi highlighted efforts to provide comprehensive medical coverage and specialized surgeries at North Kinangop Catholic Hospital, ensuring veterans received care and dignity long overdue. Historical injustices were also addressed through land titling, granting former colonial villages and their families legal ownership and security.
“General Kiambati spent his final years as a tireless advocate for his comrades. As we bid him farewell, we pray he is accorded a county burial befitting a national hero,” said Evelyn Kimathi.
She added: “My family and I commit his family to God in this difficult time. Rest in peace, General. You have fought the good fight, and your legacy will inspire generations to come.”
General Kiambati wa Njora leaves behind a nation forever grateful for his courage, sacrifice, and enduring patriotism.
