Ruto Pays Tribute to Raila Odinga on His 81st Birthday, Hails Legacy of Unity and Patriotism

President William Ruto has paid tribute to the Right Honourable Raila Odinga as the veteran statesman marked his 81st birthday, praising his long record of sacrifice, courage, and unwavering commitment to the nation.

In a message released on January 7, President Ruto described Odinga as a patriot whose life in public service has been defined by an unyielding love for Kenya and a deep belief in the country’s future.

“Raila Odinga taught us, time and again, that the country must always come before self, that no ambition is greater than our unity, and no victory more important than our peace,” the President said.

President Ruto noted that throughout moments of intense political struggle and periods of national reconciliation, Odinga consistently chose stability over chaos and unity over division, even when such choices came at great personal cost.

“He believed deeply in Kenya and never lost faith that our best days lie ahead,” Ruto said. “Whether in opposition or in dialogue, his actions reflected a conviction that the nation must be preserved and strengthened above all else.”

The President said Odinga’s legacy transcends party politics, describing him as a leader whose contribution to Kenya’s democratic journey and national cohesion will continue to guide future generations.

“As we mark his birthday, we celebrate not just the man, but the enduring lessons he has left us — to close ranks for the common good, to rise above partisanship, and to keep faith in the Kenyan dream,” Ruto said.

President Ruto called on Kenyans to draw inspiration from those lessons as the country continues to pursue unity, peace, and shared prosperity.

“Kenya is bigger than any one of us,” he said. “And it is through unity, mutual respect, and hope that we will secure the future our people deserve.”
