Eldoret Ultra-Modern Market Project on Track, Says Governor Bii
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has said the construction of the ultra-modern Eldoret Market is progressing steadily and is poised to become a landmark development for the region.
Governor Bii said the project was initiated following his appeal to President William Samoei Ruto on Christmas Day in 2022 to support the construction of a new market as a permanent solution to persistent congestion in Eldoret town. According to the governor, the President responded positively, demonstrating his commitment to practical, people-driven development.
Barely a year after the project was launched, Governor Bii noted that the scope of the market has significantly expanded. What was initially planned as a facility to accommodate 800 traders has now been scaled up to serve more than 4,000 traders, a move expected to enhance trade and spur economic growth in the county.
Speaking during an inspection of the ongoing works alongside other leaders, the governor said the market will provide traders and customers with a secure, inclusive, and well-organized business environment once completed.
Governor Bii added that the project is expected to boost the local economy, create employment opportunities, and improve urban order in Eldoret. He described the market as a key investment that reflects strong collaboration between the national and county governments and a shared focus on improving livelihoods.
“The Eldoret ultra-modern market is not just an infrastructure project, but a long-term solution aimed at empowering traders and transforming our town into a more organized and vibrant commercial hub,” Governor Bii said.
