Ruto Hails ‘Watershed’ Talks with President Trump, Announces New Era of Kenya–U.S. Cooperation

President William Ruto has lauded his recent engagements with U.S. President Donald J. Trump as “a watershed moment” in the long-standing partnership between Kenya and the United States, declaring that the talks have set the stage for “one of the most consequential bilateral relationships on the African continent.”

In a statement issued on behalf of the Government and the people of Kenya, President Ruto expressed gratitude for what he described as “generous hospitality” extended to the Kenyan delegation during their visit to Washington, D.C. He said the discussions were not only productive but also infused with “clarity of purpose, a spirit of cooperation, and a readiness to forge a bold and mutually beneficial course for the future.”

Health Partnership Strengthened

President Ruto highlighted new commitments aimed at advancing Kenya’s health sector through enhanced disease surveillance, expanded primary healthcare, and increased access to cutting-edge medical technologies.
“These measures will save lives, uplift communities, and accelerate our journey toward universal health coverage,” he said.

Trade, Investment, and the Digital Economy Take Center Stage

The president noted decisive steps taken to unlock new value chains and expand market access for Kenyan products. He welcomed U.S. interest in supporting African manufacturing, Kenya’s digital transformation, and green-transition efforts.
“The United States’ willingness to invest in our digital economy, infrastructure, and climate-positive industries signals a new era of shared prosperity,” Ruto said.

Enhanced Peace and Security Cooperation

Ruto also reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to regional stability, emphasizing the importance of U.S. cooperation in counter-terrorism, maritime security, and conflict prevention across the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region.
“When Kenya and the United States act together, the region becomes safer, more stable, and more prosperous,” he said, praising the United States’ “steadfast support and resolve.”

A Renewed Momentum in Bilateral Relations

The president credited President Trump’s personal leadership for injecting fresh momentum into the Kenya–U.S. strategic partnership, adding that Kenya is now focused on implementing the commitments made in Washington.
“We are committed to translating these commitments into real impact for our citizens,” Ruto stated. “Our goal is to elevate this partnership into one of the most impactful and transformative on the continent.”

The visit marks a significant milestone as both countries seek to deepen collaboration across health, trade, security, and technology, setting the stage for what Kenyan officials describe as a “new chapter” in Kenya–U.S. relations.
