MTRH College of Medicine Celebrates Growth and Achievement at 14th Graduation Ceremony

The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) College of Medicine has marked a major milestone with the successful hosting of its 14th graduation ceremony, an event that brought together healthcare leaders, faculty, students, families, and the wider hospital fraternity in a celebration of academic excellence and professional achievement.

The ceremony was presided over by former MTRH Chief Executive Officer, Dr. John Kibosia, who attended as the Chief Guest. His presence added a sense of legacy and inspiration, given his long-standing contribution to the growth and modernization of the hospital and its training institutions.

Hundreds of graduands donned their academic regalia to receive Diplomas and Certificates across multiple medical and allied health disciplines, reflecting the College’s expanding academic portfolio and its commitment to producing competent healthcare professionals ready to meet Kenya’s evolving health needs.

In a passionate keynote address, Dr. Kibosia commended the graduands for their hard work, resilience, and determination throughout their academic journey. He reminded them that the healthcare field is not only a profession but a calling that demands integrity, empathy, and continuous learning. Dr. Kibosia challenged the new graduates to become ambassadors of excellence and innovation as they join the workforce, noting that the country is increasingly relying on well-trained health practitioners to support its growing population.

“The future of healthcare lies in your hands,” he remarked. “As you step into various medical fields, remember that your service will directly impact the quality of life of countless individuals. Strive for excellence and uphold the values that define this noble profession.”

MTRH Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Philip Kirwa, also addressed the gathering, expressing immense pride in the 293 graduates. He noted that their achievements are a testament to both their personal dedication and the College’s steady progress over the years. Dr. Kirwa traced the institution’s journey from its humble beginnings in a single room hosting about 40 students to a fully-fledged medical training college now accommodating an average of 1,000 students at any one time.

He emphasized that the College’s success is anchored in its strong partnership with MTRH, which provides a rich clinical environment for hands-on training. Dr. Kirwa also unveiled ambitious plans for the institution’s future, highlighting the development of a modern, state-of-the-art campus at the new MTRH site in Kiplombe. The campus, located adjacent to the upcoming Multi-Specialty Hospital, is expected to transform medical education in the region by providing expanded training facilities and advanced instructional resources.

“The future of MTRH College of Medicine is brighter than ever,” Dr. Kirwa said. “This new campus will not only increase our capacity but will elevate the quality of education we offer, ensuring that our graduates remain competitive both locally and globally.”

The graduation ceremony brought together members of the Hospital Management Team, faculty, staff, and students, all of whom contributed to the vibrant and celebratory atmosphere. Proud families and friends filled the venue, cheering on the graduates whose accomplishments represent years of sacrifice and perseverance.

The event served not only as a celebration of academic achievement but also as a reaffirmation of MTRH’s commitment to training healthcare professionals capable of addressing the country’s pressing medical challenges. With expanding programs, increasing student numbers, and major infrastructural developments underway, MTRH College of Medicine continues to position itself as a leading center for medical education and professional development in Kenya and the region.
