Governor Kahiga Commissions New Rukira Dispensary to Improve Healthcare Access
Residents of Rukira village in Mahiga Ward have received a major boost in healthcare access following the commissioning of the new Rukira Dispensary by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga.
The facility, which is expected to serve more than 8,000 residents, will provide a wide range of essential services, including family planning, maternal and child health care, antenatal and postnatal services. It will cater to communities from Ruguru, Kairore, Gathuku, Mati, Kagongo, Rugu and Wathamu.
Speaking during the commissioning, Governor Kahiga said the new dispensary will drastically reduce the long distances residents previously travelled to seek medical care, while easing congestion in neighbouring health facilities.
“The dispensary, equipped with core and essential services, will be highly beneficial to the public,” he said. “Residents can now seek treatment closer to home, saving time and transport costs, while reducing the workload on facilities that were serving the eight-thousand-plus population.”
He noted that the improved proximity to care will enable health workers to offer more personalised and efficient services to each patient.
Governor Kahiga was accompanied by Mahiga Ward MCA James Kanyugo and CECM for Medical Services and Public Health, Dr. Joseph Kiragu, who both commended the move as a significant step toward strengthening primary healthcare in the region.
The new dispensary is expected to enhance overall health outcomes and improve service delivery for communities in Mahiga Ward and its environs.
