Revellers Stunned as “Padre Michael” Preaches — and Collects Offering — at Oscar Sudi’s Timba XO Club
In a scene that left night‑owls at Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi’s Timba XO nightclub blinking in disbelief, Father Michael Watenga — known online as “Padre Michael” — made a surprise appearance deep into the night of November 21, 2025.
Dressed in full clerical garb — a white-and-black cassock paired with a striking green scarf — Padre Michael was escorted into the club by a hostess holding a sign that read: “Padre Michael in The House.” The crowd roared in recognition.
As he mingled among the revellers, he led a short sermon, blessing patrons and offering words of hope. At one point, a gospel hymn — “Uninyunyizie Maji” by the Our Lady of Fatima Kongowea Choir — was played over the club’s sound system, shifting the energy in the room.
In a striking turn, Padre Michael collected what appeared to be donations from the stunned crowd, prompting cheers and applause.
The video of his visit went viral, racking up more than 1.2 million views on his TikTok account.
Father Watenga, who serves in the Anglican Diocese of Kitale, has built a reputation for his unconventional ministry. Rather than preaching exclusively in churches, he intentionally reaches out to people in pubs, clubs, and other nightlife spaces — places many would least expect to hear the Gospel.
In his own words shared on social media:
“Drinkers are human beings too. The gospel should go deeper than a bottle of alcohol … I meet everyone, I mingle with them … See you when you invite me. And remember to give an offering.”
Padre Michael also revealed plans to expand his outreach to other cities including Nakuru and Kisumu, calling on club owners to invite him.
His appearances have sparked a mix of reactions online. Some praise his boldness and inclusivity, while others question whether a nightclub is an appropriate platform for ministry.
Whatever the debate, one thing is clear: Padre Michael’s night at Timba XO was more than just a publicity stunt. For him, it’s a mission — bringing faith into unexpected corners, and meeting people exactly where they are.
