"We Never Let Baba Walk Alone" — Saboti MP Caleb Amisi Pays Tribute to Raila Odinga, Decries Hypocrisy at Funeral
Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has delivered an emotionally charged tribute to the late opposition leader Raila Odinga, recalling moments of loyalty and sacrifice while sharply criticizing perceived hypocrisy among political leaders during the funeral proceedings in Bondo.
Amisi, speaking on the sidelines of the funeral service, reflected on the historic day in August 2017, when he and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino accompanied Odinga to the Supreme Court like "bodyguards," as the ODM leader sought legal redress for what they termed a stolen election victory.
“In those critical moments, when others abandoned him, we stood with Baba—not as politicians, but as sons of the struggle,” Amisi said. “While some shouted the loudest at his funeral, they were the very people who tormented him in life.”
His remarks were a thinly veiled attack on political figures who have since eulogized Odinga with glowing tributes, despite having opposed or undermined his vision and leadership over the years.
Amisi went on to praise Odinga as a symbol of democratic resistance and a father of modern political thought in Kenya. “We never let you walk alone in the corridors of justice, Baba. Even in death, we shall carry your legacy forward. The struggle does not end here.”
Echoing revolutionary language, the legislator declared that Kenya is in dire need of a political and economic renaissance, calling for a renewed push for justice, equity, and leadership rooted in integrity.
“Aluta continua. Viva! The dream of a better Kenya must live on.”
Odinga, known affectionately as "Jakom" and "Baba" by his supporters, passed away earlier this month, sparking a nationwide outpouring of grief and reflection on his decades-long fight for democracy, constitutionalism, and social justice.
