Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday made a solemn and private visit to the grave of the late Raila Amolo Odinga in Bondo, Siaya County. The emotional moment drew national attention, symbolizing unity, respect, and reconciliation beyond the realm of politics.

Accompanied by close aides and family representatives, Kenyatta was warmly received by members of the Odinga family. He laid a wreath of white flowers on Raila’s grave and observed a moment of silence in deep reflection.

Speaking briefly after the visit, the former president described Raila as a “true patriot, reformist, and freedom fighter,” whose legacy remains deeply rooted in Kenya’s democratic journey. He praised Raila’s courage, resilience, and lifelong commitment to national unity, noting that despite their political differences, they shared a common vision for Kenya’s progress.

"Raila was more than a political ally or rival. He was a brother and a pillar of our democracy. History will remember him for standing firm when it mattered most," Kenyatta said.

Residents of Bondo gathered near the Odinga homestead, cheering and expressing admiration for Kenyatta’s gesture. Many said the visit reflected a spirit of national healing and mutual respect between two leaders who once stood on opposing sides of Kenya’s political divide.

Political analysts have termed the visit a significant moment of reflection for the country — a reminder that leadership and legacy transcend party lines and election cycles.

As Kenyatta left the compound, chants of “Baba na Uhuru!” filled the air, echoing the spirit of unity and reconciliation that both leaders once championed.
