Uasin Gishu Leaders Mourn the Passing of Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga

 

Uasin Gishu County leaders have joined the rest of the nation in mourning the death of former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, who passed away earlier this week. In a series of heartfelt tributes, political leaders from across the county expressed their deep sorrow, lauding the late statesman's enduring legacy as a freedom fighter, democrat, and unifying figure in Kenya’s political history.

Governor Jonathan Bii, in an emotional statement, described Raila Odinga as “an icon, an enigma, and a statesman whose vision and courage helped shape the destiny of our nation.” Extending condolences to the Odinga family, the Governor added, “The former Premier dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice, democracy, and unity. On behalf of the people of Uasin Gishu County, I extend my deepest condolences to Mama Ida Odinga, the family, and all Kenyans as we mourn this great leader.”

Senator Jackson Mandago echoed similar sentiments, referring to Raila as “a gallant leader” whose unwavering commitment to democratic ideals profoundly influenced the country. “His unwavering fight for democracy and justice shaped the destiny of our country. May his legacy of courage and resilience continue to inspire generations,” he stated.

Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei expressed profound sorrow, writing, “Fellow Kenyans, with profound sorrow, I extend heartfelt condolences to the Odinga family, friends and all citizens on the passing of Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga. His legacy as a champion of democracy endures. May God comfort us in this hour of grief.”

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi offered a deeply personal tribute, describing Raila Odinga not only as a leader and friend but as a father figure. “To many, he was a leader, to some, a friend, but to me, he was my father… I cherish the wisdom and guidance he shared with me. A leader of the people, by the people, and for the people,” Sudi wrote. He further hailed Raila as a continental icon, stating, “The African continent has lost a giant.”

Kesses MP Julius Ruto described the late Prime Minister as one of Kenya’s most iconic leaders. “His lifelong dedication to democracy, good governance, and the unity of our nation has left an indelible mark on our country’s history,” Ruto said. “On behalf of the great people of Kesses Constituency, I extend my deepest condolences… May his legacy continue to inspire our nation toward unity, peace, and progress.”

Soy MP David Kiplagat paid a concise but powerful tribute, calling Raila “the enigma of Kenyan politics and the father of democracy.” He added, “You fought a good fight and you will forever have a whole chapter in Kenyan political sphere since independence.”
