Police Launch Probe into Kabete Vet Lab School Attack That Left Two Guards Dead

Police officers in Kabete, Nairobi, have launched investigations into a brutal overnight attack at Kabete Vet Lab Secondary School that left two security guards dead and property destroyed.

According to reports from the Kabete Police Station, the incident occurred on the night of Thursday, October 17, when a group of unknown assailants stormed the school compound and attacked the guards on duty. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects may have been former students of the institution who had previously been suspended.

CCTV footage recovered from the school showed several individuals entering the compound shortly after midnight. One guard was reportedly killed on the spot, while the second died while being rushed to the hospital. Police believe the attackers used crude weapons during the assault.

Before fleeing, the suspects are said to have vandalized several CCTV cameras to conceal their identities and later broke into the school’s computer laboratory. They allegedly made away with ten computers and other electronic equipment, though some of the stolen items were later recovered within the school compound, suggesting the attackers may have been interrupted during their escape.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since visited the scene and collected forensic evidence, including fingerprints and CCTV footage, to aid in identifying the suspects.

The bodies of the two guards were moved to the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations as police continue the manhunt for the attackers.

Residents of the area have called on authorities to increase security around learning institutions, citing rising cases of school-related violence.
