Oburu Oginga: Babu Owino Will Get ODM Ticket If He Wins Party Nominations

By Ivy Nyaboke

Acting ODM leader Dr. Oburu Oginga has assured Embakasi East MP Babu Owino that he will receive the party’s ticket for the Nairobi gubernatorial race if he wins in the nominations.

Speaking on Ramogi TV on Tuesday night, Dr. Oburu dismissed claims that the party plans to lock out the youthful legislator, saying the ODM nomination process will be open and credible.

He noted that there was no reason for Babu to feel sidelined, adding that every aspirant will have an equal chance to compete for the ticket.

“If Babu Owino wins the nominations, he will be given the ticket. There is no reason to fear or leave the party,” Oburu said.

The Siaya Senator added that he has been trying to reach Babu Owino personally to reassure him that ODM remains committed to fairness and inclusivity.

Oburu also addressed criticism directed at ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, describing him as a passionate young leader who sometimes gets carried away but remains loyal to the party.

Turning to succession politics in the Luo community, Oburu maintained that no one can be appointed to take over Raila Odinga’s position, saying leadership will emerge naturally.

“A Luo political kingpin cannot be chosen in a meeting. The people will decide who takes that space,” he said.

Oburu’s remarks come amid heightened speculation over ODM’s internal politics and the party’s future leadership structure.
