Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi Blasts Governor Mutahi Kahiga Over 'Divisive' Remarks
Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has sharply criticized Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga over remarks he described as "reckless, tribal, and dangerous," warning that such statements risk plunging the country into unnecessary ethnic tension.
Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, Sudi accused the Nyeri governor of stoking division at a time when the country is still mourning the passing of ODM leader Raila Odinga, whom he described as a national icon and unifying figure.
"I've said this before and I will say it again: Why are you pushing one community against the wall when the country has yet to come to terms with the loss of Baba Raila?" Sudi asked, visibly agitated. "Stirring tribal tensions is not only irresponsible—it is a betrayal of the unity we should all be striving for."
The vocal legislator urged leaders across the political divide to act with restraint and remember the heavy responsibility they carry in shaping the country’s future.
"Shame on you, Governor Kahiga," he said. "We cannot afford to return to the politics of ethnic suspicion and incitement. Kenya is bigger than any one tribe or individual."
Governor Kahiga has come under fire for recent comments made at a public event in Nyeri County, which critics say were laced with ethnic undertones and implied political marginalization of certain communities. While he has yet to respond publicly to the backlash, a number of national leaders have called on him to clarify or retract the statements.
Sudi's comments come amid a tense political climate following the sudden death of Raila Odinga, a towering figure in Kenyan politics whose legacy has stirred both grief and reflection across the nation.
"This is a time for healing, not for hate. We must reject any leader who seeks to divide us along tribal lines," Sudi added.
