The Chief Principal of The Eldoret National Polytechnic, Dr. Charles Koech, OGW, joined the Principal Secretary for TVET, Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria, and officials from the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) at the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic for the official opening of two flagship national events — the KATTI National Term II Ball Games and the National Skills, Innovation, and Robotics Competitions.
The two events bring together students and trainers from technical and vocational institutions across the country to celebrate excellence in both sports and innovation, highlighting the holistic nature of TVET training in Kenya.
In her keynote address, Dr. Muoria emphasized the pivotal role of the TVET sector in driving national development through creativity, innovation, and practical skills training. She noted that the combination of athletic competition and innovation showcases the dynamic and multifaceted nature of TVET institutions.
“TVET institutions are the breeding ground for Kenya’s next generation of innovators and professionals. These events demonstrate that learning extends beyond classrooms — it is about teamwork, creativity, and resilience,” said Dr. Muoria.
Dr. Koech commended the Ministry of Education and KATTI for organizing the events, noting that they reflect the TVET sector’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded graduates equipped with both technical expertise and strong personal values.
“The fusion of sports and innovation underscores the sector’s mission to produce skilled, disciplined, and creative youth ready to contribute to Kenya’s socio-economic transformation,” Dr. Koech said.
The National Term II Ball Games promote teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among trainees, while the National Skills, Innovation, and Robotics Competitions provide a platform for showcasing practical inventions, digital creativity, and emerging technologies developed by students.
According to Dr. Koech, The Eldoret National Polytechnic remains committed to supporting initiatives that encourage innovation, collaboration, and talent development among trainees across the TVET network.
“At Eldoret National Polytechnic, we believe that every competition, whether on the field or in the lab, strengthens the spirit of innovation and excellence that defines the future of Kenya’s workforce,” he added.
