CS Murkomen Commends Peaceful Public Viewing, Assures Nation of Readiness for Raila Odinga's State Funeral

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has expressed deep appreciation for the calm, dignity, and cooperation displayed by Kenyans during the ongoing national mourning period for the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.

As the third day of mourning draws to a close, CS Murkomen commended both members of the public and security personnel for the orderly conduct witnessed during the public viewing of the late statesman's body in Kisumu and Bondo.

"We are grateful for the order and dignity with which the public viewing of the mortal remains of our beloved icon took place. I appreciate the collaboration between the public and our security teams in delivering a ceremony truly befitting a towering statesman,” said Murkomen.

The CS further confirmed that preparations for the State Funeral Service scheduled for tomorrow, October 20, at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) grounds, are complete. He assured the nation that all logistics are in place to facilitate a solemn and dignified farewell for the man fondly known as “Baba.”

Speaking after joining Siaya County leaders and national representatives in both condoling with the Odinga family and inspecting final arrangements, Murkomen emphasized the importance of maintaining peace.

“As we continue to honour Baba’s extraordinary legacy, we urge all mourners to uphold peace and calm. Let us show gratitude by uniting as a nation to bid our departed hero a dignified farewell,” he added.

The funeral procession is expected to draw thousands, including heads of state, dignitaries, and ordinary citizens, all paying their last respects to a man whose political and democratic contributions have shaped Kenya's history for over five decades.
