National Assembly Members Join Kenyans in Roan Antelope 2025 Half Marathon at Ruma National Park

In a vibrant celebration of fitness, wildlife conservation, and community spirit, Members of the National Assembly today joined hundreds of Kenyans in the Roan Antelope 2025 Half Marathon, held inside the breathtaking Ruma National Park in Homa Bay County.

Led by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Samuel Njoroge, legislators arrived at the park by dawn and assembled for a group warm-up session at 6:30 am. Spirits were high as both male and female MPs geared up to take part in the event's 10km and 5km professional races — which were flagged off in staggered starts to accommodate different age and ability groups.

Among the standout performers were Homa Bay Town MP Hon. George Kaluma and Kacheliba MP Hon. Titus Lotee, who both took commanding early leads in their respective races. Their strong finishes placed them among the front-runners in the award sessions that followed.

The marathon, named after the rare and endangered roan antelope — which is exclusively found in Ruma National Park — offered runners a rare opportunity to race through scenic trails while surrounded by Kenya’s unique and protected wildlife.

“This event is not just about running; it’s about bringing attention to conservation efforts, promoting health and fitness, and celebrating our national heritage,” said Mr. Njoroge in his closing remarks.

Beyond sport and spectacle, the event also aimed to boost local tourism and highlight Ruma National Park as a premier eco-tourism destination. Organizers praised the presence of lawmakers, noting that their participation symbolized unity, national pride, and commitment to environmental conservation.

The Roan Antelope Half Marathon continues to grow in popularity, attracting elite athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and now — policymakers. It stands as a testament to Kenya’s rich blend of culture, nature, and athletic excellence.
