Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) National Treasurer Jacinta Ndegwa has called on girls across the country to embrace Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (#STEM) subjects, describing them as a gateway to limitless opportunities in today’s global economy.

Speaking during the Nairobi Women’s Hospital College graduation ceremony at Jamhuri Showground, Ndegwa urged young women to position themselves at the center of innovation and professional excellence.

“I urge learners not to ignore natural sciences, as they provide vast opportunities. Nursing and other medical sciences continue to open doors for many, and STEM subjects remain a pathway to meaningful careers across the globe,” she said.

The event was graced by Dr. Aurelia Chepkirui Rono, Principal Secretary in the State Department for Parliamentary Affairs, who applauded the graduates for their resilience and encouraged them to pursue their dreams with confidence.

Ndegwa also commended the Principal of the College, Ruth Osoo, for inviting KEWOTA to the occasion, noting that such collaborations strengthen the shared mission of empowering women through education and mentorship.

Her remarks mirror KEWOTA’s broader commitment to promoting the empowerment of women teachers and learners through leadership, mentorship, and advocacy. As a national organization, KEWOTA continues to champion programs that encourage girls to break barriers, embrace STEM, and thrive in careers traditionally dominated by men.

By urging girls to embrace science and technology, Jacinta Ndegwa reaffirmed KEWOTA’s belief that educating and empowering women is key to building a more inclusive, innovative, and prosperous society.
